LAND4FLOOD 2025 CONFERENCE
Politehnica University Timișoara is becoming a key point in European research networks on climate action, hosting an international conference dedicated to green solutions for reducing flood risks called "Leveraging Nature-Based Solutions for Resilient Land and Flood Risk Management in the Anthropocene – Land4Flood 2025", from 3 to 5 September 2025.
The event is organized by the Climate Action Support Center (CSAC-UPT), under the aegis of UEFISCDI, in partnership with prestigious international organizations, such as the International Water Resources Association (IWRA), along with universities and research institutes.
The conference brings together in Timișoara internationally renowned experts from Europe and the United States of America – researchers, academics, decision-makers, representatives of public authorities, NGOs and specialists in the fields of environment, territorial planning and green infrastructure. The main goal is to strengthen interdisciplinary cooperation for the implementation of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) in the context of climate change adaptation.
The central discussion topics include:
- Nature-based solutions for flood risk prevention and reduction;
- Governance and financing of land use in a climate context;
- Involving private landowners in adaptation projects;
- Models of international cooperation for territorial resilience.
The program includes scientific plenary sessions, interactive workshops, poster presentations, as well as study visits to local objectives relevant to the conference theme.
The official opening took place in the presence of Prof. Dr. Eng. Liviu Marşavina, Vice-Rector for Scientific Research, Innovation and Technology Transfer UPT, and Dr. Habil. Eng. Rareș Hălbac-Cotoară-Zamfir, Director of the UPT Climate Action Support Center and the main coordinator of the conference.
The event presents scientific and practical results of strategic projects carried out by UPT, such as Land4Climate - a project funded by the Horizon Europe program, with a total budget of almost 13 million euros, which aims to use private land for nature-based solutions in the systemic transition towards a climate-resilient Europe and ELCA - Empowering Local Climate Action, a project implemented with the support of EUKI - European Climate Initiative, which aims to strengthen local capacities for climate action.
The event creates new opportunities for international collaboration, knowledge exchange and transfer of expertise between participants, contributing to the development of European research and innovation networks in the field of climate resilience and sustainable land management.
The conference benefits from the financial support of UEFISCDI, through the project 39PHE/ 2024 "Utilization of private land for mainstreaming nature-based solutions in the systemic transformation towards a climate-resilient Europe", coordinated by dr. habil. ing. Rareș Hălbac-Cotoară-Zamfir.
By organizing this conference, Politehnica University Timișoara positions itself as a key actor in promoting applied science for climate change adaptation, consolidating its mission as a regional leader in research, innovation and knowledge transfer in support of a sustainable and resilient society.
