Politehnica University of Timișoara (UPT) has strengthened its presence on the international scientific scene by participating, between April 27 and May 2, 2025, in the most important European conference dedicated to Earth sciences and climate change – EGU General Assembly, organized in Vienna. The institution was represented by ș.l. dr. habil. eng. Rareș Hălbac-Cotoară-Zamfir, director of the Climate Action Support Center within UPT.

The event brought together almost 21,000 participants, of which over 18,600 were physically present, from 120 countries, providing a framework for scientific dialogue at the highest level.

The UPT representative actively participated in the thematic sessions that addressed topics such as green transition, adaptation to climate change and the involvement of local communities in sustainable solutions. During these debates, the Climate Action Support Center was promoted as a potential regional hub of climate expertise and innovation.

"Participating in EGU 2025 was a valuable opportunity to position our center as an active and relevant actor in the European climate research landscape," said Rareș Hălbac-Cotoară-Zamfir. "We have established contacts with prestigious universities and organizations, interested in partnerships in areas such as nature-based solutions, climate education and territorial adaptation. These connections can help us develop projects with real impact, both at local and European level."

UPT's participation in this conference reflects the university's commitment to sustainability and applied research and confirms the institution's active involvement in the ecological transition, through scientific and collaborative initiatives.

This participation was financially supported by 39PHE/2024 project, funded by UEFISCDI. This project complements the Horizon Europe Land4Climate project, both emphasizing the strategic importance given to environmental research in Romania and its application in developing sustainable and practical solutions that align with global environmental objectives.
